The Ristorante Giotto
Genoa in winter: the city is brighter than ever, bathed in a cosy, mysterious atmosphere, glittering with lights. The Bristol Palace Hotel is the ideal base for discovering the charm of the city in December, when the narrow streets of the centre, the Art Nouveau avenues and the old port provide the backdrop for Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations.
The flavours of Genova on the Christmas menu
Christmas lunch at the hotel’s Ristorante Giotto on December 25 will be given over to festive cheer and flavour. It will open with welcome drinks and proceed with traditional Ligurian food and wine: cappon magro, a dish of fish and vegetables, baked cannelloni filled with ricotta and spinach with a fondue of San Ste’, a cheese typical of the Ligurian hinterland, Carnaroli “gran riserva” risotto with Barolo and martin sec pears, and roast stuffed turkey. For dessert, panera, the classic coffee-flavoured semifreddo invented in Genoa in the nineteenth century, dark chocolate brownies, Pandolce of Genoa and Pandoro of Verona. The meal will be accompanied by a special Duetorrihotels selection of red and white wines.
Welcome 2022: New Year’s Eve at the hotel
A varied dinner with fine wines will bring in the New Year, accompanied by the refined live music of the duo “The Sound Soul”. Starting from the entrées – petals of culatello di Zibello and larded king prawn – recipes will follow a “surf and turf” theme. First course will be seafood ravioli with a crustacean bisque of and Carnaroli “gran riserva” risotto with Mantua pumpkin, the second breaded fillet of salmon and slow-braised beef. For dessert, in addition to the traditional Pandolce of Genoa and Pandoro of Verona, the chef will also serve a passion fruit semifreddo. Each course will be accompanied by a special wine, from Vermentino Colli di Luni “Lunae” Etichetta Nera by Luca Bosoni to Barbera d’Asti “Fiulot” Prunotto. At midnight, 2022 will be toasted in with champagne and a plate if cotechino (boiling sausage) and lentils, traditionally believed to bring good luck in the New Year.
Christmas with colleagues
The year 2021 was a challenging one to share with colleagues and business partners. To celebrate the arrival of 2022, it’s possible to organise a Christmas office lunch or dinner in the hotel’s Art Nouveau restaurant. The menus, dedicated to musical giants such as Rossini, Vivaldi, Paganini, Verdi, Puccini and Bellini, will be inspired by the exceptional gastronomic tradition that has its roots in Genoa and its local area. Highlights will be bronze-drawn spiral-shaped strigoli, cappon magro, ravioli filled with baccalà (salt cod), roast stuffed turkey and hand-pinched ravioli del plin.
