Press release excerpts:
Lawrence Horwitz, Executive Vice President of Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide:
“Historic Hotels Worldwide is honored to induct Hotel Bristol Palace, a Liberty hotel built in 1905. We commend Hotel Bristol Palace, part of Duetorrihotels company, and its leadership team for their careful historic preservation work, stewardship and vision that will allow future generations of travelers to experience this unique historic destination. Duetorrihotels company, whose ownership is entirely Italian, constantly strives towards excellence in all its luxury properties, which other than the Bristol Palace are: Hotel Bernini Palace in Florence, also a member of Historic Hotels Worldwide, Grand Hotel Majestic “Già Baglioni” in Bologna, and Due Torri Hotel in Verona.
Giovanni Ferrando, General Manager of Hotel Bristol Palace
"“One of the finest details of the hotel, in terms of architectural and cultural heritage, is the elliptical, purely white staircase in Art Nouveau style: both from above and from below, it offers a dizzying aesthetic perspective. The Bristol Palace staircase is linked to a legend that definitely has a large fund of truth: its delicate and enveloping spiral inspired Alfred Hitchcock – who stayed in the hotel several times while shooting “To Catch a Thief” - the film "Vertigo". In fact, the great director was one of the patrons of the hotel, he had stayed with us already in 1925, when he made his first film "The pleasure garden”. When many years later Francois Truffaut interviewed him to write his famous biography "Le cinéma selon Hitchcock," the filmmaker told some anecdotes and the background of his stay in Genoa, a city he also remembered fondly.”
